Davson, lighting the way for spiritual art.
Sharon uses spiritual ideas along with her love for nature to create a type of majesty in her masterpieces that has led to them becoming the first spiritual art to be sought after and sold for up to 7 figures by a living artist.
Davson has been composing artworks that gently incorporate symbols of spirituality and belief since 1969, at age 15. It was in her 1995 painting – ‘Together we can’ that Davson began to paint ‘the Light of God’. Since then “the Light of God’ along with her puzzle pieces, have become a signature motif of her inspirational creations.
In 1996 the artist completed her first body of works containing ‘the light of god’ in her ‘With Gratitude’ series. Compiled of 14 paintings and commissioned by Minchinbury Estate, each painting interweaves the artist’s passion for spiritual and environmental themes with equipment and other objects from early Australian wine-making, as well as Australian flora and fauna. The paintings evoke humour, reflection and a sense of gratitude for all things. Boasting extensive provenance, ‘With gratitude’ is thus far among the most celebrated paintings of Davson’s career.
Recently Davson has begun a new body of spiritual work. The first painting in this new series is a creative interpretation of the Divine Plan.
It’s spiral composition is slightly unsettling to look at. It is a glimpse at billions of years of creation. Stretching back so far in time as to challenge our capacity to even begin to comprehend. Moving through the development of civilisation, the depiction of spiritual understandings, the modern era and the age of disasters.
Following around the work’s imagery a few times, there are opportunities for ever-increasing deeper layers of meaning.
Its partner painting, is only just getting underway. It will be an easier painting for people to ponder and relax with.
